SAVOY I, a 35mm camera made by ROYER in France in 1956.

ROYER made several interesting cameras from 1948 to 1961, like the TELEROY, ROYFLEX, ALTESSA, SAVOYFLEX...

In 1956 they made a simple 35mm camera called SAVOY (the plant was located in Annemasse in Savoie France).

The camera was advertised as being very practical to load without getting the camera out of its leather case. That being possible by removing the whole front (shutter and lens) form the body to access the back from the front...

Finally, what was supposed to be an easiest way to laod the camera became a real nightmare. It is very uneasy to load the film from the front :-)

Quickly ROYER add a back door (the front panel is still amovible) to the SAVOY and in 1958 the model II appeared with the back door only and in the same time the viewfinder became bigger too.

in 1958 the SAVOY body evolved to a TLR , the SAVOYFLEX one of the only two 35mm reflex cameras ever made in France (the other one is the OPL - FOCAFLEX)
